Japanese Indigo Seeds
Persicaria tinctoria, Senbon variety (pink flower)
Try growing your very own natural blue dye with this temperate climate indigo plant. Persicaria is in a genus of plants commonly known as smartweeds or knotweeds (sometimes this plant is called "dyer's knotweed"). It is noninvasive, and easy to grow either in your garden or in pots.

As these seeds have been hand-winnowed, expect a little leftover plant matter. Each packet contains thousands of seeds. There is about a 50% viability rate, so plant extra to make sure you have plenty of plants. Any seeds you don't use can be put in the freezer for use later.
- 1/4 ounce (7 gram) packets contain roughly 2100-2500 seeds
- 1/2 ounce (14 gram) packets contain roughly 4200-4900 seeds (you'll want a lot of seed to start in a seed bed, if you plan on growing a large plot of indigo)
